MU Women Fall to Division I Binghamton

Box Score The Misericordia women's basketball team lost at Division I Binghamton, 77-54, Saturday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex.

Justine Seely led MU with 16 points, 16 rebounds and two steals. Rachel Carmody had nine points and 12 rebounds while Shannon Croasdale had 10 points, four rebounds and two steals. Japriya Carroll had six points and three assists.

Carmody once again faced off against her twin sister, Rebecca, a forward for the Bearcats.  Rebecca had eight points Binghamton.

Binghamton opened the game on a 9-0 run before Leanne Forsyth put MU on the board in the opening three minutes. The Bearcats then went on a 13-1 run, with Croasdale scoring the lone Cougar point on a foul shot over the next seven minutes. Carmody drilled a three-pointer off a Liz Waleski feed at the buzzer to make it 22-6 after one.

Misericordia kept fighting in the second quarter, with Seely providing six of the MU 11 points in the quarter. The Cougars went into the half with the score 38-17. They held a 30-19 advantage on the boards at the half.

The teams traded buckets early before a Bearcats three pushed their lead to 24, but Lena Williams drilled a three from the top of the arc off a Carroll assist. Williams returned the favor by setting up Carroll on the right wing for a three of her own. Seely added a layup to make it 29-47 with three minutes to go.

Binghamton scored five quick points, Carroll made a free throw and Croasdale made a tough layup in traffic to make it 52-34. The Bearcats came down and scored once more before Carroll tossed it over to Alexa Plitt on the left wing. She drained a three from way behind the line to make it 54-37 at the end of three.

The Cougars opened the fourth on a 7-2 run behind a three from Croasdale and two Seely layups to make it 56-44. Binghamton drained a three and some foul shots, Croasdale drained a corner jumper off a pass from Seely and Carroll made a layup off a feed from Forsyth. That made it 61-48 with a little under seven minutes to go.

Misericordia went cold over the final six minutes as Binghamton ended the game on 16-6 run.

The Cougars dominated the Bearcats on the boards, 50-33.

MU heads into the break 5-4, and they will host Marywood, December 30 at 5:00.
