MU Women Top Utica

Justine Seely and Rachel Carmody both had double-doubles to lead the Misericordia University women's basketball team to a 79-47 win over Utica, Saturday afternoon in the Anderson Center.

Seely had 16 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks while Carmody added 15 points and 10 rebounds.  Jaclyn Hajec added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Cougars against her hometown team.

The Cougars shot 43.5% from three-point range and held a 59-35 rebounding advantage while improving to 4-3.

Trailing 15-14 late in the first period, the Cougars went on a 14-0 run to take the lead for good.

Japriya Carroll entered the game and drained a three-pointer from the right corner off an inbounds pass from Lena Williams to start the run.  Carmody followed with a putback and Liz Waleski drilled a three-pointer from the top of the key for a 22-15 lead.

Williams made two free throws to give the Cougars a 24-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Seely opened the second quarter with a short jumper and a layup to complete the run and put MU ahead, 28-15.
Utica cut the lead to 28-21, but never got any closer as the Cougars scored the next eight points.  Carmody and Seely had back-to-back putbacks and Seely found Paige Wampole for another layup.  Wampole converted an offensive rebound to give MU a 36-21 lead midway through the second quarter.

Alexa Plitt drained a three-pointer from in front of the Utica bench to give the Cougars a 48-29 lead at halftime.

Misericordia will host CCNY, Sunday, December 11.
