The Misericordia men's basketball team won, 79-68, at home against King's, Saturday afternoon at the Anderson Center.
D.J. Marlow scored a career-high 26 points off the bench while
James Hawk scored six points, grabbed eight rebounds and broke his own school record with 10 blocks.
Marlow scored 15 of his 26 points in the final 9:20 of the game
Griffin Sponaugle scored nine points, all three-pointers, handed out five assists and notched four steals while
Jason Kenny added 11 points.
A Kings foul shot cut the lead down to three, 69-66, with 2:11 remaining.
On MU's next possession, Kenny drove into the lane and dished out to Marlow, who was all alone on the rightwing behind the three-point line and Marlow drained it, making it 72-66.
Following a stop, Hawk went 1-2 at the foul line, but the Monarchs tipped in a missed layup to make it 68-73 with 1:13 to go.
Marlow ran the shot clock down to under 10 seconds, then came off a Hawk screen at the top of the key and drained another three, pushing MU ahead, 76-68.
With King's inbounding under their hoop, Marlow stole the inbounds pass and went the other way and scored the final bucket.
In the first half the teams traded buckets, with five lead changes in the first 15 minutes, but a
Tyler McGarry three off a Kenny pass gave MU a 25-24 lead with 5:53 remaining, a lead they wouldn't relinquish the rest of the way.
MU would go on an 11-2 run, capped when Sponaugle found Hawk alone in the paint and Hawk slammed it home, making it 35-26 with 2:58 to go.
King's responded with a mini run of their own, climbing back within two at 35-33 with six seconds remaining.
Marlow checked in and proceeded to take an inbounds pass the length of the floor and made a spectacular lay-up at the buzzer to make it 37-33 MU heading into halftime.
MU shot 51.8% from the field and 53.1% from behind the three point line and held King's to 36.2% shooting from the field and 36% from three.
The Cougars blocked a season-high 12 shots and made a season-high 17 three-pointers.
The win pushes MU to 13-10 on the year, 7-5 in the MAC Freedom and they are currently in third place with two games to go.
MU returns to the floor to host Eastern, Tuesday at 8:00.
