The Misericordia University men's basketball team used another hot shooting night to clinch a MAC Freedom playoff berth with a 92-66 win over Eastern in their regular season home finale, Tuesday night in the Anderson Center.

Tyler McGarry scored a career-high 18 points to lead five Cougars in double figures.  Griffin Sponaugle had 17 points and Jason Kenny added 16.  D.J. Marlow had 15 points and Erik Kerns added 10.

Sponaugle had a team-high seven rebounds and added four assists while Marlow and Kerns combined for 11assists.

The Cougars shot 14-27 (51.9%) from three-point range while improving to 14-10 overall and 8-5 in the MAC Freedom.

After Eastern scored the first five points of the game,  McGarry, Kenny and Sponaugle buried consecutive three-pointers to give the Cougars a 15-14 lead with 13:05 to go in the first half.

McGarry put back his own miss and Sponaugle drilled a deep three-pointer from the left wing.

Marlow slashed his way for consecutive layups to cap a 12-0 run and a 24-14 lead midway through the period.

Jamie Egan drained a three-pointer from the left wing off a nice feed from Alec Rodway in transition for a 27-16 lead.

Kerns buried a three-pointer from the left wing to ignite an 8-0 run.  McGarry hit a three from the left wing and Sponaugle's layup put MU ahead 35-18 with 5:06 left in the first half.

Eastern cut the deficit to nine points in the final minute of the half, but MU scored four points in the final seven seconds.

McGarry made a short jumper off a feed from Kerns and Kenny stole the ensuing inbounds pass and laid it in for a 43-30 halftime lead.

Kenny opened the second with a three-pointer from the left corner and Kerns followed with a baseline jumper for a 48-33 lead.

Sponaugle drilled deep threes from wings to spark a 10-0 run for a 58-36 lead with 13:55 to go.

Marlow drained a three-pointer off the dribble to beat the shot clock to start his personal 7-0 run.  He followed with a driving layup and two free throws to stretch the lead to 65-39.

Eastern answered with a 10-0 run, but Sponaugle stopped the bleeding with a big three-pointer in front of the MU bench as the Cougars responded with an 11-0 run.

Marlow kept a loose ball in bounds to Hawk for layup and then threaded a long bounce pass to a streaking Kenny.  Marlow's long outlet pass to Kenny led to a layup and Hawk dished to Kenny for his third straight layup to give the Cougars a 76-49 lead with 7:13 to go.

McGarry scored five points as part of another 10-0 run to make it 90-55 with 3:05 remaining.

The Cougars will conclude the regular season at Manhattanville, Saturday.
