The Misericordia University baseball team opened the 2016 season with a doubleheader split at #16 Shenandoah, Saturday.

The Cougars dropped the opener, 5-4, in 13 innings, but rallied to win the nightcap, 6-2, in 13 innings.

After Shenandoah took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of the second game, the MU pitching staff held the Hornets scoreless for the next 12 innings and the Cougars scored four runs in the top of the 13th.

Down 2-0, the Cougars got a run back in the fifth.  Iurato was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and Miles Westrich reached via fielder's choice.  Boroch's two-out single to left scored Westrich to cut the deficit in half.

Kyle Lindsay reached on an outfield error to lead off the sixth and came around on Steve Cuccio's two out double to center field to tie the score, 2-2.

The Cougars loaded the bases in the 11th when Mike Comerford walked, Kenny Jarema was hit by a pitch and Iurato reached on an infield single.  The Hornets got out of the inning on a pair of groundouts.

Scott Carton started the game-winning rally with a pinch-hit walk to open the 13th.  Pinch-runner Steve Weisensee moved up on a sacrifice bunt and scored the go-ahead run on Iurato's double to left center.
After Westrich was intentionally walked, Reda singled through the left side to make it 4-2 and Boroch single to right field gave the Cougars a 5-2 lead with Reda advancing to third.

Reda came home on a throwing error on Jeremy DeCotiis' sacrifice bunt to close the scoring.

Turton retired the Hornets in order in the bottom of the 13th to earn the win.
