The Misericordia University baseball team defeated Kean, 5-1, behind a strong outing from Garret Pelko, Thursday in Rincon, Puerto Rico.

Pelko struck out six and scattered six hits over seven innings to earn the win while
Mike Blazaskie worked two shutout innings in relief.

Chris Boroch,
Kyle Lindsay and
Miles Westrich all had two hits.

MU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning.Â
D.J. Navoczynski drew back-to-back walks and pulled off a double-steal before
Al Reda reached on an infield error to score Navoczynski.

Boroch walked and
Alec Iurato singled through the right side to make it 2-0.

Boroch led off the fourth with a double to left field and moved to third on
Kyle Lindsay's single to left. After
Mike Comerford drew a one-out walk to load the bases, Boroch was forced out at the plate on
Brian Eshleman's fielder's choice, but Lindsay came home on a throwing error on the play to make it 3-0.

Westrich singled through the right side with one out in the fifth and stole second. Boroch's two-out single to right center plated Westrich to stretch the lead to 4-0.

Kean got a run back in the bottom of the fifth, but MU answered in the top of the sixth.

Comerford drew a one-out walk and oved to third on Eshleman's infield single and a throwing error.Â
Vinny Annunziata followed with a single through the left side to make it 5-1.

The Cougars improved to 4-4 and will play SUNY-Oneonta, Friday at 3:00.
