Elliot Forde worked 3.2 innings of scoreless relief to lift the Misericordia University baseball team to a16-13 win at Eastern, Wednesday afternoon.
Mike Comerford hit two homers and drove in four runs and
Kenny Jarema had four hits.
D.J. Navoczynski had three hits and four RBI and
Kyle Lindsay drove in three runs on two hits.
Al Reda added two hits as the Cougars improved to 10-5 overall and 3-1 in the MAC Freedom.
The Cougars built a 10-3 lead through 4-1/2 innings before Eastern rallied for 10 runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
Chris Boroch led off the game with a single and moved to third on Jarema's double down the right field line. Navoczynski's two-single up the middle gave the Cougars a 2-0 lead.
Eastern answered with five straight two-out hits in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-2 lead.
Lindsay's two-out, two-run double inside the third-base bag put MU ahead 4-3 in the second.
Navoczynski led off the third inning with a triple to right field and scored on Comerford's two-run homer to left. The Cougars used two walks and an infield error to take an 8-3lead.
MU added a pair of runs in the top of the fifth on a throwing error and
Alec Iurato's sacrifice fly to take a 10-3 lead.
After Eastern scored three times in the bottom of the fifth, the Cougars answered with four in the top of the sixth.
Miles Westrich and Boroch sandwiched walks around
Al Reda's single to load the bases with one out. Jarema singled through the right side to drive in a run and Lindsay reached on a fielder's choice to plate another. Iurato walked to re-load the bases and Navoczynski singled down the left field line to give MU a 14-6 lead.
Eastern hit three doubles and two homers in a seven-run sixth inning to pull within 14-13.
Forde got the final two outs and held the Eagles scoreless the rest of the way.
Misericordia added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the eighth when
Parker Abate reached on an error and Comerford belted his second homer of the game.
The Eagles loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but Forde got a fly out and a grounder to secure the win.
The Cougars will host Eastern for a doubleheader, Thursday at noon.
