The Misericordia University baseball team used two solid pitching performances to take both ends of a doubleheader from Eastern, 3-1, 6-4, Wednesday afternoon at Tambur Field.
Ryan Dorosh tossed a complete game three hitter in the opener while
Cory Vogeli worked six innings with relief help from
Garrett Pelko in the nightcap.
In the opener,
Chris Boroch and
Alec Iurato both had two hits while Iurato and
Kyle Lindsay both drove in runs.
Lindsay and
Connor Rittenhouse had two hits each in the second game while
Mike Comerford blasted a solo homer.
Dorosh struck out six, including four of the last six batters he faced.
After Eastern took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth, the Cougars rallied for two runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Al Reda coaxed a one-out walk and pinch-runner
Parker Abate moved to second when Boroch bounced a single over the third baseman's head. Lindsay steered a single through the right side to tie the score and Iurato lined a single back through the box to give MU a 2-1 lead.
Rittenhouse led off the sixth with a pinch-hit single deep in the hole on the left side and moved up on a fielder's choice. Boroch reached on an error and Rittenhouse came home on a wild pitch on ball four to
Kenny Jarema.
The Cougars threatened in the third when Reda lined a one-out single to right and stole second. Boroch singled through the right side, but the Eagles turned an inning-ending double play.
The Eagles used to hits and a wild pitch to take the lead in the fourth.
Iurato and
D.J. Navoczynski singled in the bottom of the frame, but were stranded.
Eastern put two runners on in the top of the fifth, but Boroch made a nice stop behind the bag to get the force at second base to end the inning.
In the nightcap, MU struck early with runs in the first and second innings.
Boroch drew a lead-off walk and eventually scored on Iurato's sacrifice fly.
Comerford's solo homer down the left field line made it 2-0 in the second.
Lindsay ignited a four-run rally with a triple to lead off the third inning and Navoczynski and Rittenhouse both followed with RBI-singles.
Eastern got two runs back in the fifth and made it 6-4 on a two-run homer in the seventh.
Pelko came on for Vogeli with a runner and got a line drive double-play and a ground out to notch the save.
