The Misericordia University baseball team handed third-ranked Ramapo its first loss of the season, 8-5, Tuesday afternoon.

D.J. Navoczynski had three hits and four RBI and
Parker Abate added three hits and two runs scored.

Garrett Pelko worked into the sixth inning to pick up the win while
Ryan Dorosh pitched a perfect ninth to earn the save. Mike Turton and
Elliot Forde combined for three shutout innings of relief in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.

Kyle Lindsay and
Miles Westrich both had two hits.

After Ramapo took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth, the Cougars tied it in the top of the fifth.

Westrich led off with a double and scored on Abate's single to right.Â
Kenny Jarema singled up the middle and Lindsay singled home Abate to tie it.

The Cougars took a 6-2 lead with a four-run sixth.Â
Jeremy DeCotiis led off with a single and eventually scored on a squeeze bunt. Following a single by Abate, Jarema walked and Lindsay was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Alec Iurato reached on an error to make it 4-2 and Navoczynski drove in two runs with a single through the left side.

Ramapo pulled within a run with three runs in their half of the sixth before Turton came on to get out of the inning.

Navoczynski's two-out, two-run single in the top of the eighth provided a pair of insurance runs.

Garrett Pelko worked into the sixth inning and Turton pitched 1.2 innings of hitless relief.Â
Elliot Forde pitched 1.1 innings and Dorosh worked a 1-2-3 ninth.

The Cougars won their fourth straight to improve to 12-5.
