The Misericordia University baseball team split a doubleheader at Manhattanville, Sunday. MU won the opener 10-4 before dropping the nightcap, 7-6 on a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh.
In game one,
D.J. Navoczynski had three hits, including a homer, and drove in four runs.
Alec Iurato had two RBI and scored twice and
Jeremy DeCotiis added two hits.
Mike Turton struck out three and scattered eight hits over six innings to pick up the win.
DeCotiis had a two-run double and Iurato had a two-run single to highlight a seven-run second inning. Navoczynski reached on an error to start the inning and closed the scoring with an RBI-double.
Kyle Lindsay singled up the middle to lead off the fourth inning, moved up on ground out and scored on Navoczynski's single to center field.
The Cougars added two more in the seventh inning on Navoczynski's two-run homer to left field.
In game two,
Kyle Lindsay and
Chris Boroch had two hits each and
Miles Westrich drove in two runs.
Elliot Forde allowed just five hits over five innings in his first career start as the Cougars built a 3-1 lead. But, the Valiants scored three runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh to secure the come-from-behind win.
In the top of the first, Lindsay doubled, moved to third on
Kenny Jarema's single through the right side and scored on Iurato's sacrifice fly.
Boroch singled up the middle to start the third. One out later, Jarema singled to left to make it 2-1.
The Cougars added an insurance run without the benefit in the fifth. Boroch drew a lead-off walk and moved to second on Iurato's two-out walk. Navoczynski was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Comerford drew a four-pitch walk to force in a run.
After Manhattanville plated three runs in the bottom of the sixth to go ahead, the Cougars answered with three in the top of the seventh.
DeCotiis drew a bases-loaded walk and Westrich had a two-run single to give MU a 6-4 lead.
Manhattanville put together three straight two-out singles in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.
