The Misericordia University women's lacrosse team jumped to an early lead and extended their winning streak to seven games with a 15-8 victory over Eastern, Monday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
The Cougars improved to 9-6 overall and remained unbeaten in the MAC Freedom at 5-0.
Olivia Garcia and Allie Elmes both scored five goals and
Lindsay McKim added a pair.Â
Cara Spector had a goal and two assists.
Elmes had a team-high five ground balls while
Ashley Hobbs and
Taylor Simeone each had three.
Simeone and
Brianna Ladner had three caused turnovers and
Rachael Taylor had six draw controls.
Katie McLoughlin made three saves and allowed two goals in 30 minutes.
Garcia gave the Cougars an early lead when she bounced a shot in from in front of the cage less than five minutes into the game.
McKim bounced a shot inside the right post two minutes later and Elmes whipped a shot inside the left post to make it 3-0 with 20:33 remaining in the first half.
After an Eastern goal, Hobbs scored a free position goal and Garcia scored three straight goals to make it 7-1 with 8:36 left.
Eastern scored again, but Elmes answered with three goals over the final 4:11 of the first half to take a 10-2 halftime lead.
MU scored the first three goals of the second half to take a 13-2 lead.
The Cougars will visit FDU-Florham, Saturday in a battle for the top seed in next week's MAC Freedom championships.
