The Misericordia baseball team beat Wilkes, 8-2, on a rainy Friday afternoon at Tambur Field.

Zach Mason went 7.0 innings and allowed four hits while striking out seven for the Cougars. Elliot Forde came in and got the win in relief. Across the final two frames he allowed two hits and struck out two.

Mike Comerford had another strong day at the plate, going 3-5 with a RBI and a run scored. Kyle Lindsay went 1-4 with a double, a RBI and a run scored and D.J. Navoczynski went 1-5 with a double, a RBI and a run scored.

Kenny Jarema drew four walks in the game and crossed the plate three times. Jeremy DeCotiis and Miles Westrich were both 1-4 with a RBI.

The Cougars got up 1-0 on Wilkes in the bottom of the first. Jarema drew a walk, Alec Iurato was hit by a pitch and Navoczynski reached on an error which also allowed Jarema to score.

The Colonels tied things up in the fourth off an RBI single to right-center and then took the lead in the sixth off a RBI triple to right.

In the bottom of the sixth, with runners at second and third, Al Reda hit a line drive which the Wilkes shortstop made an outstanding diving catch on to stop MU from scoring.

In the bottom of the seventh, Jarema and Iurato drew back to back walks before Comerford singled to load the bases. Jarema scored on a wild pitch to make 2-2.

The Cougars put up six runs in the eighth, scoring all six runs with two outs.

Reda was hit by a pitch, Chad Bell came in to pinch-run for him and Bell advanced to second on a wild pitch. A Boroch ground out advanced him to third and Lindsay roped a RBI double into left-center. Jarema walked and Iurato hit a pop fly to right which the right fielder misplayed. Jarema and Lindsay crossed the plate while Iurato ended up on second.

Navoczynski smacked a RBI double to left-center and Comerford singled through the left side to score him. DeCotiis and Comerford executed a double-steal to score Misericordia's final run which left the score at 8-2.

The win pushes MU to 28-10 (15-4) heading into their doubleheader at Wilkes. First pitch is at 1:00.
