MU Men's Lax Clinches Post-Season Berth

The Misericordia University men's lacrosse team used a big second quarter to clinch a MAC Freedom post-season berth with an 11-7 win over Delaware Valley, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.

Andrew Reynolds had three goals and three assists and won 13 of 19 face-offs and Lane Kocovsky added three goals and an assist for the Cougars.

Chris Fleming had two goals and an assist and four ground balls and Pat Newins added four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Ryan Cannon had four ground balls and Josh Shanker made 11 saves in goal.

After falling behind 2-0 late in the first quarter, the Cougars responded with two goals in 14 seconds to tie score.

Reynolds bounced in a shot from the right wing off the face-off and found Phil Fraher in front of the net off the next face-off.

Kocovsky put the Cougars in front early in the second period, but Del Val tied it with a man-up goal a minute later.

Reynolds found Kocovsky off the face-off to give the Cougars the lead for good and start a string of six unanswered goals.

Fleming took a feed from Kocovsky near the right post to make it 5-3 with 7:59 to go in the second period and Kocovsky scored an over-the-shoulder goal 12 seconds later to make it 6-3.

Newins hit Fleming in stride cutting from the right flank a minute later for a 7-3 lead.

The Cougars converted a turnover near midfield into a man-up, empty-net goal to go up 8-3 and Kyle Reese added a man-up goal to give MU a 9-3 lead with 1:06 left in the first half.

Cannon scooped up a ground ball near midfield and scored to make it 10-4 to open the third quarter.

Reynolds whipped in a man-up goal in the opening minute of the fourth quarter to give MU an 11-5 lead.  The Aggies added a pair of man-up goals to pull within 11-7, but the MU defense held the rest of the way.
