For the second year in a row, the Misericordia University men's basketball team was upset, 71-70, at FDU-Florham, Saturday.
Jason Kenny had 22 points to lead the Cougars and
Tre Fields added 10 points.Â
Griffin Sponaugle had nine points and
James Hawk had eight points and 12 rebounds.
Trailing 64-57 with 5:46 to play, the Cougars battled back to tie, 68-68.
Kenny made two free throws and then converted a steal into a fast break layup and added another layup for six straight points to get MU within a point, 64-63.
Tony Harding added a free throw and a steal by Sponaugle led to a Harding layup to tie the score, 66-66.
After an FDU basket, Hawk's tip-in re-tied the score, 68-68, with 1:48 to play.
Down 71-68, Harding made two free throws to cut the deficit to 71-70 with :37 left.
The Cougars held FDU without a field goal attempt the rest of the way, but MU missed five shots over the final 30 seconds.
Misericordia, 10-3 (1-1), will visit Eastern, Wednesday.
