The Misericordia University volleyball team lost a non-league match at Elmira, 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-21), Thursday night.
Tara Welliver led the Cougars with 12 kills while
Coleby Charlier added eight.
Michelle Sehested had five aces and 11 digs and
Karley May had a career-high 32 assists.
Paige Shaughnessy had six kills and 11 digs.
The Cougars fell behind 7-1 in the first set and trailed 14-3 before scoring eight straight points.  Sehested had two aces and Welliver had two kills as part of the run to get MU within 14-11.
Welliver added a kill and an ace and Shaughnessy had two kills as the Cougars scored five straight points to take a 17-16 lead.
Elmira closed the first set on 9-2 run to win 25-19.
The teams went back and forth throughout much of the second set with Elmira eventually taking a 17-13 lead. An ace from Welliver and a kill by Charlier key a 4-0 spurt as the Cougars tied the score, 17-17.
Elmira broke an 18-18 tie with a 5-1 run to take control of the set.
The Soaring Eagles scored four straight points to break a 12-12 tie in the third set.
MU scored three straight to get within 18-17, but Elmira answered with four straight points to take a 22-17 lead.
Misericordia will wrap up the season at Wilkes, Wednesday.
