Susquehanna Edges MU Men in OT

The Misericordia men's soccer team fell to Susquehanna, 1-0 in overtime, Wednesday night in their final non-conference matchup of the season.

Dominic Pizzi made eight saves in his first career start in goal for the Cougars.

The River Hawks scored in the first minute of overtime on a shot by Patrick Bresney.

Both teams struggled to get anything going in the first half with MU's best chance coming in the 24th minute when Michael Ciardullo received the ball in the box off a cross by Cody Rogers, but his ensuing shot was saved by the keeper.

In the second half, Pizzi came up big, making four saves in the first 15 minutes. His biggest save came in the 57th minute when Eric Dempsey charged toward the net, but Pizzi came out to meet him at the edge of the box before he could get a clean shot off.

Dempsey had another prime scoring chance in the 59th minute, but his shot went just high.

In the 68th minute, Misericordia had a chance when Tristan Snyder sent a free kick into the box, where the Cougars earned a corner kick off a blocked shot by Dylan Molyneaux. However, the Cougars could not capitalize on Ethan Benedict's corner as the River Hawks cleared it away.

The Cougars had their best chance of the night in the 75th minute when Ciardullo sent the ball into the box to an open Rogers, but his one-touch shot went high.

Misericordia had another great chance in the 88th minute as Nick Szczerba was taken down just outside the box. Devin Marriot sent the ensuing free kick into the box but Molyneaux's shot was saved.

Misericordia will host Delaware Valley on Senior Appreciation Day, Saturday at 5:30.
