The Misericordia University women's volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Lycoming Invitational, Friday.
The Cougars dropped the opener, 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-9) to Penn State-Behrend before sweeping Alfred State, 3-0 (26-24, 25-17, 25-18).
Sarah Pool led the Cougars with six kills in the opener while
Paige Shaughnessy added four kills and a team-high nine digs.Â
Ariana Gagliardi had 11 assists, two aces and seven digs.
Against Alfred State,
Michelle Sehested had nine kills and four blocks while
Tara Welliver and
Jassmine Watson added eight kills each.
Gagliardi had 18 assists while
Karley May added 14 and Shaughnessy had four aces.Â
Kaitlin Wheeler had three aces and 13 digs.
In the first set against Alfred, the Cougars took an 18-12 lead on four consecutive errors by Alfred. The Pioneers rallied to take a 24-22 lead, but the Cougars tied it on kills by Watson and
Coleby Charlier and won it on back-to-back attack errors.
MU trailed in the second set and closed it out on a 6-1 run.
It the finale, the team's traded points throughout the early going and Alfred eventually led 17-16, but the Cougars allowed just one point the rest of the way to win 25-18.
Misericordia will face Lycoming and Elizabethtown, Saturday.
