The Misericordia University women's basketball team's rally fell short in a 70-66 loss at Neumann in the championship game of the Neumann Tip-Off Classic.
Paige Wampole had 14 points and 12 rebounds and
Japriya Carroll had 16 points, nine rebounds and five assists and both were named to the all-tournament team.
Rachel Carmody added 18 points and five rebounds.
The Cougars trailed 57-48 with 5:46 to play, but cut the deficit to 65-64 with 1:03 to go.
Four straight points from Wampole and a Jackie Hajec layup pulled the Cougars within 57-54.Â
Caroll had a layup and converted a three-point play to cut the lead to 65-61 and
Liz Waleski hit a three-pointer to get within a point.
Misericordia led 17-11 after the first quarter and stretched the lead to 24-15 with 4:34 to play in the second. Neumann answered with a 12-0 run to take a 27-24 halftime lead and opened the third quarter with five straight points.
