The Misericordia University women's basketball team rallied for a 59-56 win over University of Mary Washington, Wednesday afternoon at the Cruzin Classic in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Rachel Carmody had a team-high 10 points and nine rebounds and
Paige Wampole added nine points as the Cougars won their fourth straight game to improve to 5-4.
Trailing 50-42 with 6:31 to play, the Cougars closed the game on a 17-4 run.
Liz Waleski and
Kalynn Sefcik both hit three-pointers to get MU within 52-45 with 5:16 remaining.
Carmody made three straight layups to pull even, 56-56, with 1:26 to play.
Wampole put the Cougars ahead with a foul shot and Forsyth iced it with a pair of free throws with 12 seconds left.
The Cougars trailed 17-9 late in the first quarter, but answered with eight straight points.Â
Quintessa Zamolyi hit a three-pointer and jumpers by
Japriya Carroll and Waleski made it 17-16 with 1:05 to go in the first period.
Down 20-16,
Jordan Barth converted a three-point play to end first quarter down 20-19.
Two free throws by Wampole gave MU a 21-20 lead early in the second quarter, but the Eagles rallied to take a 36-27 lead at halftime.
Misericordia will travel to Keystone, December 30.
