Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Kenny, Cougars Cruise to Victory

The Misericordia men's basketball team got back to .500 with an 80-68 victory over Rutgers-Newark, Monday night at the Anderson Center.

Jason Kenny matched his season-high with 27 points while also dishing out six assists. Tre' Fields added 11 points, seven rebounds, and six assists and Noah Rivera pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Cougars shot 35% from three while holding the Scarlet Raiders to just 21% from beyond the arc, including 0-9 in the second half.

Rutgers-Newark had the lead for most of the first half, but the Cougars took the lead for good on a layup by Tyerell Mann with 4:02 to go before the break. Misericordia was able to extend their lead to five at the half when Kenny poked the ball away on defense with six seconds left and raced up court where Fields was able to find him for a layup to beat the buzzer.

In the second half, the Cougars built a double-digit lead thanks to seven quick points from Tony Harding out of the break. With 15:56 to go in the game, Kenny gave all the momentum to the Cougars by converting on a four-point play to give MU a 13-point lead.

The Cougars had a double-digit lead the rest of the way, building it all the way up to 18, and cruised to the victory.

Misericordia will travel to Juniata, Friday to face Randolph-Macon at 5:00 as part of the Doc Greene Tournament. The winner of that game will face the winner of the Juniata-College of St. Joseph's (VT) game, Saturday.
