The Misericordia men's basketball team beat DeSales, 91 to 83, Tuesday evening.
Tony Harding had 24 points and five rebounds while
Tre Fields had 21 points, a block and a steal.
Griffin Sponaugle had 13 points and eight rebounds.
Jason Kenny had 13 points and seven assists.
Noah Rivera had 10 points while
Alec Rodway had three points, eight rebounds and five assists.Â
The Bulldogs opened the game by scoring the first four points of the game over the opening two minutes. Harding scored the opening two points for MU with a layup. After the Bulldogs scored again, Rodway found Harding for three to make it 6-5.
The teams traded buckets over the next five minutes, a Rivera layup cutting the deficit back to one at 20-19 with 10:16 left. The teams exchanged makes, including a Sponaugle three and Rivera jumper and the score was tied 24-24.
Misericordia closed the half on a 16-9 run as they went into the half up 40-33.
Neither team could score to open the second half, as neither team scored over the first two minutes. Fields scored the first bucket of the second half on a three-pointer off a pass from Kenny.
Kenny scored inside to make it 47-40 with 16:22 left as Misericordia started to pull away. On the next offensive possession, Rodway grabbed a Cougar miss and found Kenny all alone for three. The Bulldogs scored, and then Kenny hit Fields cutting along the baseline and he dunked it home.
After MU forced a miss, Harding grabbed the rebound and threw it ahead to Fields. Fields eurostepped right to left around the defender and scored while being fouled. He swished the foul shot to make it 58-44.
The Bulldogs missed, Rodway found Harding for a layup and after getting another stop, Sponaugle found
James Hawk inside. The Bulldogs split pair of foul shots before Kenny found set up Fields for a three as the MU lead ballooned to 20 at 65-45 with 10:56 to go.
DeSales used a 26-12 run to close the game to six, 77-71, with 2:38 to go. Back to back three's from Rodway and Fields before two foul shots by Sponaugle push the lead back to 85-71.
A five point burst by DeSales made it 85-76. Kenny got fouled, made both free throws and then things went sideways.
The Bulldogs missed a shot and Kenny got the rebound. A Bulldogs player tried to tie him up and fouled him. In the ensuing confusion, Misericordia was assessed two dead ball technicals which meant the Bulldogs got four free throws and the ball. Kenny made both of his foul shots and DeSales made all four of theirs. DeSales drained a deep three to make it 89-83 with 16 seconds left. Kenny was fouled and made  two more free throws and DeSales final three was off the mark.
Misericordia shot 56% from the field and 42% from behind the three point line.
The Cougars will play their season finale at Manhattanville, Saturday at 3:00
