The Misericordia University men's lacrosse team only led once in their thrilling 9-8 win at Oneonta in Saturday's season opener.
Phil Fraher scored an unassisted goal with 1:13 overtime to give the Cougars their only lead of the day as Misericordia overcame a late two-goal deficit.
Brandon Winslow and
Jake Kocovsky both scored in the final four minutes of regulation to set the stage for Fraher's game-winner.
Winslow had three goals and an assist to lead the Cougars while
Chris Fleming had two goals and an assist.
Fraher had a goal and an assist and Kocovsky,
Kyle Reese and
Patrick DeMichele all added goals.
Kocovsky was 8-14 on face-offs and grabbed seven ground balls while
John Tierney had four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Oneonta grabbed a quick 2-0 lead before DeMichele cut the lead in half with 11:12 left in the first quarter.
After an Oneonta goal, Fleming scored man-up to get with 3-2, but the hosts added another goal to lead 4-2 after one period.
The teams both scored a goal in the second quarter and Winslow scored a man-up goal early in the third quarter to pull MU within 5-4.
The Red Dragons scored twice midway through the third and Winslow answered with an unassisted tally with 4:05 left in the third stanza.
Fleming scored early in the fourth quarter to get within 7-6, but Oneonta regained a two-goal lead with 6:25 to go.
The MU defense held the Red Dragons scoreless the rest of the way to set the stage for the rally.
