The Misericordia University women's basketball team will host Rutgers-Camden in the first round of the 2017 ECAC Championships, presented by 'Visit Myrtle Beach', Wednesday, March 1 at 7:00.
The winner will advance to face the Cabrini/Stevenson winner in Friday's quarterfinals at Carnegie Mellon. Carnegie Mellon is the top seed in the 15-team field and received a first round bye and will host the final three rounds.
Misericordia is making its sixth ECAC Tournament appearance and first since 2008. The Cougars are 18-8 after an 84-81, double-overtime loss to DeSales in the MAC Freedom semifinals a week ago.
Senior
Shannon Croasdale scored a career-high 20 points in the loss to DeSales and Jackie Hajec added 18 points on four three-pointers. MAC Freedom Player of the Year
Justine Seely added 16 points and 15 rebounds while
Rachel Carmody had 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Seely averages a double-double while leading the Cougars with 15.5 points and 11.9 rebounds per game. Carmody adds 12.3 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
Croasdale, Hajec and
Japriya Carroll all average 1.2 three-pointers per game while
Leanne Forsyth has a team-high 2.7 assists per game.
Rutgers-Camden is 14-11 after finishing tied for sixth place in the New Jersey Athletics Conference. Jovan Childers leads four players in double figures with 16.3 points per game. Gabby Greene adds 13.3 ppg while Michelle Obasi adds 12.0 ppg and a team-high 8.8 rebounds per game. Childers and Obasi were both named second-team All-NJAC.
Fatimah Williams averages 11.1 ppg while Cara Racobaldo leads the team with 3.8 assists and 2.7 steals per game and is third on the team with 6.8 rpg.
Greene is the team's top three-point threat at 33.6%.
Other first-round games include Neumann at Brooklyn, SUNY-Cobleskill at Springfield, Marywood at NYU, Centenary at Moravian and Grove City at Waynesburg. All first-round games will be played Wednesday at 7:00. The quarterfinals will be part a quadruple-header beginning Friday at 11:00 at Carnegie Mellon.
