Jake Kurtz and three relievers combined on a two-hitter to lead the Misericordia University baseball team to a 7-1 win at Delaware Valley, Thursday.
The Cougars won their sixth straight game to improve to 10-4 overall and 3-0 in the MAC Freedom.
Kurtz struck out three while allowing one run over six innings.Â
Elliot Forde,
Curt Jorgensen and
Drake Koch all worked a hitless inning of relief to close the game.
Alec Iurato,
Jeremy DeCotiis,
Steve Weisensee and Billy Kerwein all had two hits for MU. Iurato, Weisensee and Kerwein each had one of Misericordia's eight doubles.
MU scored three times in the top of the first inning and never looked back, adding a run in the second and two in the third.
Kenny Jarema opened the game with a walk, moved up on
Conor Smith's sacrifice bunt and scored on Iurato's single to left center.Â
Tyler Holzapfel drove in Iurato with an opposite field double and DeCotiis made it 3-0 with a single to left.
Kerwein and Jarema hit back-to-back two-out doubles to left center in the second to give MU a 4-0 lead.
Iurato led off the third with a double to right center and scored one out later on
Alec St. Pier's double down the right field line. DeCotiis was hit by a pitch and after a fielder's choice, moved up on a wild pitch and scored on an infield error to make it 6-0.
The Aggies lone run came on a solo homer off the right field foul pole in the bottom of the third and the score stood until MU added a run in the ninth.
Santo Guinta led off with a pinch-hit double to right center and scored on
Scott Carton's two-out, pinch-hit double to left.
The Cougars are scheduled to host the Aggies in a doubleheader, Saturday at noon at Tambur Field.
