Cougars Sweep PSU-Behrend to Open Florida Trip

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Misericordia University baseball team swept PSU Behrend, Sunday morning in Fort Pierce, Florida.

The Cougars won game one 1-0 and game two 7-0.

In the first game, Garrett Pelko went 6.1 innings to get the victory.

Steve Pabon came in to get the save.

Santo Guinta was 1-3 with double and an RBI while Alec St. Pier was 1-3.

With two outs in the fourth inning, Guinta doubled to score Tyler Holzapfel .

In the 7th, St. Pier ended the game with a 5-3 double play with the tying and winning runs on base for PSU-Behrend.

In game two, Tim Burek threw a complete game one-hitter with seven strikeouts. He got plenty of run support as MU scored early and often.

In the second, Jeremy DeCotiis was hit by a pitch, Conor Smith put down a sac bunt to move him to second and an error by the pitcher put DeCotiis on third. A grounder to third by Kenny Jarema was misplayed, which allowed DeCotiis to score and Smith to advance to second. Later, Jarema got caught in a rundown between first and second which allowed Smith to score from third as MU led 2-0.

The Cougars scored three times in the fourth (all with two outs), once in the fifth and another in the seventh to close the scoring.

DeCotiis was 1-2 with a HBP, a walk two RBI and two runs scored. 

MU is now 2-2 on the year and they will play Drew, tomorrow at 3:30.
