Box Score The Misericordia University baseball team defeated La Roche, 6-3, Tuesday afternoon in Fort Pierce, Florida at the Lanwood Complex.
Jake Kurtz picked up the win on the mound for MU. He went 6.0 innings, allowed three hits and struck out eight.
Jeremy DeCotiis was 3-4 with two doubles, a run, two RBI and a walk.
Kenny Jarema was 2-3 with a double, two walks, a stolen base and a run scored.
Tyler Holzapfel was 2-5 with two RBI.
Misericordia got on the board early, scoring a run in the first and the second innings.
In the top of the first, DeCotiis led off with a double before advancing to third on a ground ball. He scored on
fielder's choice off a ground ball by
Alec Iurato.
In the second,
Sean Lyons led off with a single. He got to second on catcher's interference before he scored on a single to center field by DeCotiis. MU led 2-0 through the first five innings
In the sixth,
Conor Smith reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to second on a single by
Parker Abate. DeCotiis doubled to score Smith while Abate stopped at third. Abate scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0 Misericordia.
In the seventh, Jarema led off with a single and Iurato followed that up with a single of his own. They executed a double steal to put runners at second and third with no outs. Holzapfel singled them both home to make it 6-0.
La Roche scored via a sac fly in the eighth and a two-run triple in the ninth to make things interesting, but the game ended at 6-3.
The Cougars leadoff hitter reached safely in eight of the nine innings.
MU will play SUNY-Maritime, Wednesday at 1:30.
