MU Men Win Fifth Straight, Clinch Post-Season Berth

The Misericordia University men's lacrosse extended its winning streak to five and clinched a MAC Freedom Tournament berth with a 14-8 victory at FDU-Florham, Saturday afternoon.

Chris Fleming had three goals, two assists, two caused turnovers and three ground balls to lead MU.  Brandon Winslow had four goals and five ground balls and Pat Kellish added three goals and an assist.

Ryan Romaine had 12 face off wins and seven ground balls and Matt Beck made 16 saves in goal.

Sean McSwiggan gave the Cougars an early lead and Winslow and Kellish scored man-up goals less than a minute apart for a 3-0 lead with 11:46 left in the first quarter.

After an FDU-Florham goal, Jake Kocovsky and Fleming answered with goals to give MU a 5-1 lead after one period.

Kyle Reese, Kellish and Fleming scored consecutive man-up goals as Misericordia stretched the lead to 8-1 less than four minutes into the second period.

The Devils scored twice in the middle of the stanza, but Pat DeMichele scored 1:18 before halftime for a 9-3 lead.

Fleming scored early in the third quarter before the Devils rattled off four straight to goals to pull within 10-7 late in the quarter.

Winslow scored in the final minute to make it 11-7 after three periods.

FDU-Florham added a man-up goal early in the fourth quarter, but Winslow scored twice midway through the period and Kellish closed the scoring with 5:38 remaining.

The Cougars improved to 8-3 overall and 5-0 in the MAC Freedom and will visit Delaware Valley, Wednesday.
