MU Women's Lax Clinches Berth in MAC Freedom Playoffs

The Misericordia University women's lacrosse team clinched a berth in the MAC Freedom Playoffs with a 24-13 win over Delaware Valley, Tuesday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.

Liz Mulvey notched six goals and two assists, Lexee Willey had five goals and two assists while Kaila Quinlivan had four goals, three assists and eight draw controls. Olivia Garcia had two goals with two assists and Emily Connell tallied three goals and an assist. Kate Raab had a goal and an assist, Ashley Hobbs scored twice and Amy Roth scored once.

Connell opened the scoring for the Cougars with a low shot from close range just under two minutes into the game.

A minute later, Garcia snagged an errant Delaware Valley pass out of the air and tossed it ahead to Mulvey. She ran toward goal and fired a shot into the bottom left side of the goal to give MU a 2-0 lead.

Quinlivan had a hand in the next five goals, scoring three of them and setting up Connell and Mulvey as Misericordia opened up a 7-0 lead.

The Aggies got one back to make it 7-1.

Raab had the ball on the right wing and tossed it to Garcia. She juked past one defender and fired a low shot past the keeper to make it 8-1 MU with 15 minutes to go in the half.

Delaware Valley scored twice more, Willey set up Mulvey for another goal and the Aggies scored again to make it 9-4 with just over 12 minutes left.

Goals from Hobbs and Willey pushed the Misericordia lead back up to 11-4 before Delaware Valley scored a man-up to cut the lead down to six.

In the final seven and half minutes, Quinlivan and Raab found the back of the net, but Delaware Valley netted the final two goals of the half to make it 13-7 at halftime.

The Aggies scored 11 seconds into the second half to narrow the gap to five.

A little over a minute later, Willey beat the defense herself. She got the ball around midfield, sprinted down the right side past four defenders and ripped a shot past the keeper to make it 14-8.

Delaware Valley scored three minutes later to get back within five.

The next seven minutes were back and forth with neither team able to score.

Misericordia took control over the final 18 minutes and outscored Delaware Valley 9-4 to seal the victory.

Garcia's second assist of the game (setting up Quinlivan's second goal) gave her 28 on the year which ties the school record for assists in a single season.

The Cougars out-shot the Aggies 43-23 and held an edge in draw controls, 22-15.

The win moves MU to 10-3 on the year, and clinches a berth in the MAC Freedom playoffs.

Misericordia will close the regular season at Delaware Valley, Saturday at 1:00.
