MU Baseball Sweeps Wilkes

The Misericordia University baseball team swept Wilkes, Sunday afternoon at Tambur Field.

The Cougars won game one 4-3 and won game two 1-0.

In game one, Kenny Jarema went 2-3 with an RBI. Steve Weisensee was 1-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Garrett Pelko got the win after he went 6.1 innings, allowed five hits and struck out four. Elliot Forde came in to get the save. 

Wilkes got on the board first in the second inning via a solo shot to left field.

In the bottom of the fourth, Jarema singled into right to score Billy Kerwien to tie the score at 1-1.

Wilkes scored again in the fifth inning to make it 2-1, but MU responded in the bottom of the inning.

Jeremy DeCotiis was hit by pitch and advanced to second on a strike out before Weisensee doubled to left to score him. Kerwein reached on an error by the second baseman that allowed Weisensee to cross the plate and give MU their first lead of the game at 3-2.

Wilkes made the final inning interesting. Pelko got the first batter to ground out and the second batter singled to left field. Forde came in to get the save. The next batter singled up the middle to put runners at first and second with one out. The next batter ripped a single into right field to score the runner from second and the batter tried to stretch his single into a double. A nice throw from Weisensee got the runner out at second. Forde got the final batter to fly out to center to seal the game.

In game two, Jarema went 1-1 with two walks and a run scored and Tyler Holzapfel was 1-3 with a RBI.

Tim Burek went the distance to get the victory. He allowed six hits and struck out seven.

In the bottom of the sixth, Jarema led off with a single to right field. DeCotiis laid down a sac bunt to get him to second and Holzapfel drove him in with a single to right.

Wilkes once again had a chance to tie or take the lead in the seventh, as they loaded the bases with two outs. Burek got the final batter to ground out to second to get the sweep.

Misericordia travels to Wilkes to finish the series, Monday at 3:00.
