Lexee Willey had three goals and an assist to lead the Misericordia University women's lacrosse team to a 12-10 win over Moravian in the first round of the ECAC Championships, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
Amy Roth added three goals and
Kaila Quinlivan had two goals and three assists for the Cougars.
Olivia Garcia scored twice and
Emily Connell and
Amanda Rackliff both added goals.
Quinlivan added six draw controls and five caused turnovers and
Katie McLoughlin made eight saves in goal.
Bri Ladner had six ground balls and four caused turnovers as the Cougars improved to 13-4.
The Cougars took the lead when the converted on a caused turnover on a Moravian clear attempt into a Garcia goal nearly four minutes into the game.
Less than two minutes later, Willey scooped up a loose ball near the left post and placed a shot into the upper right corner for a 2-0 lead.
Roth came from behind the net on right side and put a shot under the bar for a 3-0 lead with 21:23 to go in the first half.
After Moravian scored on a free position shot with 19:39 to go, Roth cut across the middle, evaded a defender and scored to give MU a 4-1 lead less than a minute later.
Willey took a long outlet pass from Quinlivan and beat the goalie one-on-one for a 5-1 lead with 18:40 to play.
McLoughlin made a big save on a free position shot midway through the first half, but Moravian's Jillian Picciuto picked up her 200
th career point on a free position shot with 13:59 remaining.
The Greyhounds scored three more goals over the final 10:29 to tie score, 5-5, heading to intermission.
Quinlivan found Garcia on the move in front of the net to put the Cougars ahead for good less than two minutes into the second half.
Rackliff came from behind the cage for a 7-5 lead with 27:20 to go.
Moravian got a goal back, but MU answered with three goals in seven minutes for a10-6 with 13:36 left.
The Greyhounds got within 11-9 with 4:22 remaining, but Roth drove from the right flank and whipped a shot inside the right post to give the Cougars a 12-9 lead with under two minutes to play.
Misericordia will face Arcadia in the ECAC semifinals, Saturday at 4:30 at Stockton.
The Cougars defeated the Knights, 10-7, during the regular season.
