The Misericordia University baseball team opened a three-game series with Manhattanville with an 11-5 win, Thursday in Purchase, NY.
Brett Davis had four hits and
Kenny Jarema and
Steve Weisensee added three hits while
Jeremy DeCotiis had two hits and drove in four runs.
Tim Burek scattered eight hits over seven innings, including six straight shutout innings, to earn the win.
The Valiants took a 4-1 lead after one inning, but Burek shut them down over the next six innings as the Cougars built a 10-4 lead through seven innings.
DeCotiis reached via hit by pitch to start the third and went to third on Jarema's double to right field.Â
Tyler Holzapfel drove in a run on a ground out and Weisensee singled to right to get the Cougars within a run.
MU scored five runs in the fourth inning to go in front. Davis led off with a single to right and took third one out later on
Conor Smith's single down the right field line.
After Smith stole second, DeCotiis singled to left to tie the score. Jarema singled through the right side to give MU the lead and DeCotiis came home on an error to make it 6-4. Jarema stole second and took third on a throwing error before coming home on Holzapfel's RBI-ground out. Weisensee singled to right and stole second. After

Parker Abate singled to center field as the Cougars took an 8-4 lead.
Davis and Kerwein singled to start the eighth and eventually scored on a two-out single through the right side by DeCotiis to make it 10-4.
Misericordia, 26-12, will wrap up the regular season with a doubleheader against Manhattanville, Saturday at noon at Tambur Field.
