Eldridge Lifts MU to First Win

9/20/2017 9:49:00 PM

Box Score Colby Eldridge scored twice to help the Misericordia field hockey team win its first game of the season over the Flying Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley, 2-1, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.

Katleyn Campbell made six saves in goal for MU.

The Cougars had multiple chances early in the first half, firing six shots in the first 15 minutes, including five on goal.

Misericordia took the lead just before halftime when Eldridge was able to corral the ball from about 10 yards out off a penalty corner and sent a shot to the bottom right corner of the net.

In the second half, Lebanon Valley came out attacking over the first 20 minutes coming out of the break. The Dutchmen had the first 10 shots of the half but were unable to find the back of the net until Jenna Lysakowski scored from 20 yards out to tie the game with 15 minutes left.

It was not tied for long, however, as Eldridge was able to give the Cougars the lead back less than five minutes later by getting the ball from about 25 yards out, going on the attack, and firing a reverse stick shot from about 10 yards out into the upper half of the cage.

Lebanon Valley had a couple more chances, including earning a penalty corner as time expired, but Misericordia was able to get it out of the zone to secure the victory.

Misericordia hosts FDU-Florham in their MAC Freedom opener, Saturday at 5:00.
