The Misericordia University women's volleyball team dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 decision to Manhattanville, Wednesday night in the Anderson Center.
The Cougars took the first set, 25-20, but lost the next two, before rallying for a 25-22 win to force a fifth set.
Manhattanville came from behind to win 17-15.
Coleby Charlier led the Cougars with 18 kills while
Tara Welliver had 13 kills and six blocks.Â
Ariana Gagliardi had 28 assists and 20 digs and
Karley May had 22 assists.
Charlier had a pair of kills to help the Cougars jump out to a 4-0 lead in the first set.
Back-to-back kills by
Jassmine Watson stretched the lead to 15-9.
The Cougars never trailed in the set and Charlier eventually closed it out with a kill.
After dropping the next two sets, MU trailed 18-16 in the fourth set before Welliver's kill and three Valiant errors gave MU a 20-18 lead. Charlier and
Michelle Sehested had kills to seal a 25-22 win.
Welliver and Charlier combined for three kills as the Cougars scored four straight points to take a 9-8 lead in the fifth set.
A pair of Manhattanville errors and a kill by
Mikayla Gunkle gave MU a 12-9 lead.
Misericordia had two tries at match point but was unable to score the clincher before Manhattanville rallied for three straight points and a 17-15 win.
Misericordia, 9-9, will host a tri-match, Saturday.
