Tony Harding scored a season-high 32 points and
Tre Fields added a double-double as the Misericordia University men's basketball team remained unbeaten in MAC Freedom play with an 85-78 win over King's, Wednesday night in the Anderson Center.
Fields had 13 points, including the 1,000
th of his career, and 12 rebounds and
Jason Kenny added 19 points and eight rebounds.
Down 69-68 with 5:31 to play, Kenny's put back gave the Cougars the lead for good and Harding tipped in his own miss for 72-69 lead.
Fields followed with a pair of free throws to become the 25
th member of the 1,000
th point club at MU.
Brendan Leonard found Harding under the basket for a 76-70 lead with 2:11 to go.
After a King's bucket, Fields' drive-and-dish to Harding made it 78-72.
Kenny slashed from the top of the arc for an easy layup and an 81-72 lead with under a minute to play.
Harding sealed the win with a dunk from the left baseline.
After King's broke a 17-17 to take a 24-22 lead with 5:52 left in the first half, the Cougars and answered with 10 straight points in a little over a minute.
Alec Rodway drilled a three-pointer from the left corner and then used cross court pass to Fields in the right corner for another three-pointer.
Fields made two of three free throws on MU's next possession and Kenny finished a two-on-one break off a long outlet pass from Fields to give the Cougars a 29-24 lead with 4:51 to go in the first period.
Harding buried a three-pointer from in front of the King's bench to give MU a 34-29 lead, but the Monarchs cut the margin to 35-34 at intermission.
The Monarchs opened the second half on a 7-2 run to take a 41-37 lead, but the Cougars answered with a 9-0 run.Â
Tyerell Mann took a long pass from Rodway under the basket and Harding tied the score, 41-41, off a lob pass from Rodway. Mann's floater in the lane put MU in front and Kenny drained a three-pointer from the right corner to the Cougars up, 46-41, with 16:11 to go.
King's battled back and eventually took a 60-52 lead with 11:47 to go. Harding drilled a three-pointer from the top of the key and Fields dunked off a long pass from Kenny to cut the deficit to 60-57.
The teams went back-and-forth over the next four minutes and Harding converted a short jumper in the lane off a loose ball scramble into a three-point play to pull the Cougars even, 66-66.
King's hit a three-pointer for a 69-68 lead, but Kenny's put back put MU in front for good.
The Cougars will visit DeSales, Saturday.
