Japriya Carroll's hot hand led the Misericordia University women's basketball team to a 74-67 overtime win at DeSales, Saturday afternoon.
Carroll was 8-10 from floor, including a perfect 5-5 from three-point range, for a game-high 24 points.Â
Paige Wampole led three MU players with double-doubles with 20 points and a game-high 20 rebounds.
Quintessa Zamolyi had 14 points and 10 rebounds and
Rachel Carmody added 10 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and four blocks.
Carroll had nine rebounds as the Cougars held a commanding 60-35 edge on the boards.
Misericordia led throughout most of regulation and survived a late fourth-quarter charge by DeSales.
MU led 40-37 midway through the third quarter, but the Bulldogs rallied to take a 52-50 lead with 4:31 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Carmody's three-pointer gave MU a 57-54 lead with 1:12 left in regulation, but DeSales pulled within one point on a layup and made one of two free throws in the closing seconds to force OT.
Carroll drilled a three-pointer to open the extra session and the Cougars never trailed. After a three-point play for DeSales, Wampole converted one of her own to put MU in front for good, 63-60, with 4:04 to go.
Erica Haefele made four free throws in the final minute and combined with Carroll and Wampole to go 8-8 from the foul line down the stretch.
Zamolyi opened the game with back-to-back three pointers for MU and Carroll added another as the Cougars jumped out to an early 11-4 lead.
A putback by Wampole followed by a three-pointer by Carroll gave the Cougars a 16-8 lead late in the first quarter.
Another trey from Carroll and a layup by Zamolyi stretched the lead to 25-15 midway through the second quarter.
DeSales pulled within 28-25 at halftime, but Carroll and Wampole combined for 10 points early in the third quarter and a jumper by Carmody gave Misericordia its biggest lead of the night, 40-27, with 6:37 to go in the third period.
The Cougars improved to 10-6 overall and 3-2 in the MAC Freedom and will host Wilkes, Wednesday.
