The Misericordia men's basketball team has had its share of problems with FDU-Florham in the past, but not today as the Cougars easily handled the Devils in a 76-55 victory, Saturday afternoon at the Anderson Center.
The Cougars improve to 7-6 (2-0 MAC Freedom) on the season, while FDU-Florham falls to 0-13 (0-2 MAC Freedom).
Tre Fields led the way with 20 points and five rebounds. Jason Kenny pitched in 19 and Tony Harding had 13 points and four assists. Tyerell Mann also had a quality game with five points, seven rebounds, and three blocks.
The Cougars had a 17-11 turnover advantage and scored 40 points in the paint, a rare occurrence for a normally three-point shooting heavy team.
It was back-and-forth for nearly the entire first half as neither team had more than a five-point advantage, but the Cougars started to seperate themselves near the end. With 1:55 remaining, Kenny was able to hit an open three off an inbounds play to give the Cougars a seven-point lead and with just about 30 seconds to go before the half, Harding blocked a layup, grabbed the rebound and found Stone McCreary who found a streaking Fields for the open layup to give the Cougars a 36-28 halftime lead.
Misericordia came out strong to start the second half, extending their lead to 15 on an and-one by Fields. A 6-0 run by the Devils was quickly thwarted by the Cougars, who went on a 12-0 run to take a commanding 57-36 lead with 11:29 to play.
The Cougars were able to hold steady the rest of the way to secure their second-straight win by more than 20 points.
Misericordia is back in action, Wednesday when they host Eastern at 6:00.
