The Misericordia University men's soccer team picked up a key win with a 3-1 victory at Wilkes, Wednesday evening.

Charles Gugel, Jared Houser and Nick Szczerba all scored goals for the Cougars and MU overcame playing down a man for the last 10 minutes.

Andrew Daubenspeck made three saves in goal to earn his first career win as the Cougars moved into a tie for third place in the MAC Freedom with a 3-2 record.

The Cougars took a 1-0 lead at 18:21 when Ethan Benedict's shot from 30 yards out caromed off the right post.  Gugel gathered the rebound on the right flank and slotted a ball across the goal mouth into the left side of the net.

MU made it 2-0 off a long throw-in that was flicked to Houser near the right post.  His first shot was saved, but Houser buried the rebound inside the right post.

Wilkes cut the MU lead in half just over five minutes into the second half, but the Cougars responded just 10 minutes later.

Sidney Kabinoff played a ball in from the right flank and Szczerba touched the ball past the Wilkes keeper in the box and placed a shot into the empty net.

Misericordia will host FDU-Florham for Senior Appreciation Day Saturday at 1:00 at McGeehan Field.
