Jason Kenny scored 25 points and
Noah Rivera had another double-double with 21 points and 17 rebounds as the Misericordia University men's basketball team defeated New Rochelle, 89-74, in the consolation game at the Vassar Tip-Off Tournament, Saturday.
Tony Harding had 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists and
Stone McCreary added 11 points and seven rebounds.
Justin Iton had 10 rebounds as the Cougars improved to 2-1.
Rivera was named to the All-Tournament team.
Kenny opened the game with back-to-back three-pointers and
Jake Bartholomew added a three-pointer as the Cougars grabbed an early 11-5 lead.
New Rochelle rallied to take a 14-13, but McCreary answered with a three-pointer to put MU back in front, 16-14, just over six minutes into the game.
Two free throws gave New Rochelle its biggest lead of the game, 33-26, with 7:21 remaining in the first half. McCreary and Kenny made back-to-back three-pointers to put the Cougars in front for good, 37-35, with 5:50 to go in the half.
Harding scored seven straight points in less than a minute to make it 49-41 with less than a minute to play.
New Rochelle got within 63-60 just over seven minutes into the second half, but the Cougars built their advantage back to 71-61 with 9:01 to go and MU maintained at least an eight-point lead the rest of the way.
Rivera converted a tip-in to a three-point play for an 83-72 lead and the Cougars pulled away over the final four minutes.
Misericordia will host Dickinson, November 25.
