The Misericordia University women's basketball team jumped out to a big lead and never looked back en route to a 70-56 win at the College of Staten Island in a battle of unbeaten teams.
Japriya Carroll scored 19 points and
Rachel Carmody and
Tessa Zamolyi both had double-doubles with 15 points and eight rebounds as the Cougars improved to 4-0.
Carroll opened the game with a three-pointer and the Cougars never relinquished the lead.
Paige Wampole's layup midway through the first period gave the Cougars a 12-8 lead and ignited a 10-0 run.
Carroll followed with eight straight points, including a pair of three-pointers for a 20-8 lead with 3:43 left in the opening stanza.
Leanne Forsyth grabbed a defensive rebound and went the distance for layup in the final minute of the first quarter and the Cougars led 25-12.
Jordan Barth's layup midway through the second quarter gave MU its biggest lead of the night, 35-16.
The Dolphins closed the half on a 7-0 run in the final minute to get within 39-31.
CSI cut the MU lead to 41-35 less than four minutes into the third period, but they never got any closer.
Carroll's free throw re-established a 10-point lead for the Cougars, 47-37, with 3:15 to play in the third quarter.
Carmody made two free throws in the closing seconds and the Cougars led 55-39 heading to the final period.
The Cougars maintained at least a 12-point lead over the final 10 minutes.
Misericordia will host the Sisters of Mercy Tournament, Saturday and Sunday.
