Box Score The Misericordia University men's volleyball team picked its first MAC win with a 3-0 sweep of Widener, Tuesday evening in the Anderson Center.
Caleb Bauder led the Cougars with 11 kills and three aces and
Ryan Miller added eight kills and two aces.Â
Michael Trygar had five kills and two aces and
Bailey Brugler had 27 assists.
Misericordia won 29-27, 25-11, 27-25 to improve to 8-9 overall and 1-4 in the MAC. The Cougars will host Arcadia, Thursday.
Trailing 6-4 in the first set, Trygar and Bauder both had two kills as part of a 6-0 run to give MU a 10-6 lead.
The teams traded points throughout the rest of the set with Bauder's smash inside the back left corner giving the Cougars a 19-18 lead.
A 4-1 run gave Widener a 22-20 lead and the Pride took a 24-21 lead on an MU attack error.
Bauder hit through two blockers and Brugler's quick hit in the middle brought the Cougars within 24-23 and a Widener error tied the score.
The Cougars fought off two more set points before Miller's ace inside the right sideline capped a 3-0 run for a 29-27 win.
In the second set, Miller had two kills as the Cougars ran out to a 7-2 lead and never looked back.
Bauder had back-to-back aces and
Matt Lavin added another ace for a 23-11 lead.
The teams traded points throughout the third set and the Cougars finally pulled even, 22-22, on Brugler's ace.
The Cougars led 24-22, but Widener rallied twice to avoid the match-clinching point.
Trygar's kill put MU in front 26-25 and Bauder's smash off a service return sealed the 27-25 win.
