Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Cougars Top Alvernia, 21-7

The Misericordia women's lacrosse team took on Alvernia and crazy weather, Thursday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field as they defeated the Golden Wolves, 21-7.

The Cougars improve to 3-4 while the Alvernia dropped to 0-4.

Kaila Quinlivan scored five goals and had an assist while Olivia Garcia and Shae O'Leary tallied three goals and an assist. Brianna Ladner picked up four ground balls and had nine draw controls and Emily Connell caused three turnovers. Tori Hodges made five saves in goal.

With snow coming down early in the game, Misericordia jumped out to a 3-0 lead on two goals by Garcia and one by Connell in the first five minutes. Connell found the back of the net to open the scoring when she cut down the middle and took a pass from Lexee Willey. She composed herself and fired a shot past the goalkeeper.

After Alvernia score two straight to get back within one, the Cougars went on a 7-0 run with three goals each by Quinlivan and Meaghan Whelan and another by Willey.

The Golden Wolves score twice more in the first half, but MU answered with three straight before the break. Connell weaved through the Alvernia defense and fired a shot into the net to put the Cougars up seven before O'Leary scored twice to give Misericordia a 13-4 lead at halftime.

Garcia opened the scoring in the second half when she had the ball behind the net and came around to fire a shot into the lower right corner of the net.

Misericordia went on a 6-0 run that started in the bright sun and ended in snow flurries later in the half to force a running clock and put the game out of reach. During the run, the Cougars received goals from six different players including the first career goal for Faith Sinclair

MU will be back in action, Tuesday at 4:00 when they play at Lycoming.
