Kellish Ties School Record, MU Men Rally to Remain Undefeated

The Misericordia University men's lacrosse team remained unbeaten with a 19-11 come-from-behind win over Mt. St. Mary, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.

Patrick Kellish tied his own school record and Patrick Luzzi added six goals as the Cougars overcame an early 7-2 deficit to improve to 5-0.

Brandon Winslow had two goals and an assist and John Tierney and Jake Kocovsky both had three assists.

Ryan Romaine won 18 of 27 face-offs and had a team-high eight ground balls while Luzzi, Kocovsky and Fleming all had five ground balls.

Matt Beck entered the game midway through the first quarter and made eight saves over the final 52 minutes to earn the win.

Patrick Kellish gave the Cougars an early lead with an assist from John Tierney early in the first quarter, but the Knights answered with five straight goals over the next 10 minutes to take a 5-1 lead with 2:01 to play in the opening quarter.

Kellish added a goal with an assist from Paul Hanrahan with 1:35 left and the Cougars ended the first period down, 5-2.

Mt. St. Mary scored twice early in the second quarter to take a 7-2 with 9:01 remaining.

Kellish scored three straight goals to ignite the MU comeback and Luzzi scored back-to-back goals to pull the Cougars even.

Kellish scored again with 1:17 to play in the half to give the Cougars an 8-7 lead.

Mt. St. Mary quickly tied the score in the third quarter, Luzzi came from behind the net and stuffed a shot inside the right post to put MU back in front, 9-8.

The Knights answered with a man-up goal that deflected off Beck and trickled in to knot score, 9-9, midway through the third quarter.

Luzzi put the Cougars back in front off a feed from Tierney and made it 11-9 when he caused a turnover deep in the Mt. St. Mary end and placed a shot inside the left post with 3:02 left in the third period.

The Cougars killed off a 30-second two-man down situation late in the third to maintain an 11-9 lead.

After a Mt. St. Mary goal early in the fourth, Brandon Winslow whipped a shot under the bar form the left wing for a man-up goal to ignite a 5-0 MU run.

Luzzi added another goal and Sean McSwiggan grabbed a rebound in front of the net and scored a man-up goal for a 14-10 lead with 7:33 to play.

Fleming converted a caused turnover deep in the Knights' end into a goal and a 15-10 lead less the 30 seconds later.

Kellish scooped up a ground ball off a blocked shot and placed a shot in the upper right corner for a 16-10 lead.

Later in the fourth, Kellish took a pass from Tierney and ripped a shot under the crossbar for his eighth goal of the game to tie his own school record which he shares with Lane Kocovsky and Matt Carey.

Brandon Winslow and Matt Sippel added goals in the closing minutes to clinch the win.

Misericordia will visit Scranton, Wednesday.
