McCole's Gem Helps Cougars Take Series From Wilkes

The Misericordia University team split a doubleheader at Wilkes, Saturday to take the series from the Colonels.

After dropping an 8-7 decision in walk-off fashion in the opener, the Cougars rallied for a 3-1 win the nightcap.

Ian McCole struck out six while allowing just four hits to earn the complete-game win in game two.

Adam Concadoro had two hits and an RBI and Parke Abate had two hits.  Sean Boylan had a hit and drove in a run and Steve Weisensee had an RBI.

Trailing 1-0, the Cougars tied the score in the top of the fourth and added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh.

Sean Lyons led off the fourth with a single down the left field line, moved up on a sacrifice bunt and came home on Concadoro's single to center.

Concadoro tripled down the right field line with two outs in the sixth and scored on Boylan's single to right center to give MU a 2-1 lead.

Abate reached via hit by pitch to lead off the seventh, went to second on a sacrifice and moved to third on an error before scoring on a squeeze bunt.

McCole gave up a two-out infield single in the seventh, but struck two of the last three batters he faced to close out the game.

In the opener, Wilkes rallied for five runs over the final two innings, including three in the bottom of the seventh, to win in walk-off fashion.

Steve Weisensee led the Cougars with two hits and two RBI.  Lyons had a hit and drove in a run and Kenny Jarema scored two runs and had an RBI.

The Cougars took a 2-1 lead in the top of third and added a run in the top of the fourth.  Jarema led off the third with a walk and advanced to third base on Conor Smith's single down the right field line with Smith taking second on the throw.

Santo Guinta tied the game with a sacrifice fly and Cole Bixler put MU ahead with an RBI-ground out.

Abate reached via hit by pitch with one out in the fourth and moved up on Concadoro's single to left.  Chad Bell reached on an error to load the bases and Jarema made it 3-1 with a sacrifice fly to center.

After Wilkes tied in the fourth, the Cougars scored twice in the fifth and sixth to go up, 7-3.

Tied 3-3, Guinta was hit by a pitch to lead off the fifth and went to second on a sacrifice bunt.  Weisensee singled through the right side and raced to third on a single by Shane Hughes.

Abate gave the Cougars 5-3 lead on a squeeze bunt.

Lyons made it 6-3 with a pinch-hit homer to lead off the sixth and Jarema reached via hit by pitch.  He moved up on a sacrifice bunt and stole third.  Guinta was hit by a pitch and stole second before Weisensee plated Jarema with a single through the right side to make it 7-3.

Wilkes answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth and scored three times in the bottom of the seventh for the walk-off win.

The Cougars will face Delaware Valley, Sunday at Tambur Field.
