Solid Pitching Keys Sweep of Del Val

The Misericordia University baseball team got two solid starting pitching performances to sweep a doubleheader from Delaware Valley, 13-5, 7-3, Sunday afternoon at Tambur Field.  Delaware Valley was the home team due to unplayable field conditions in Doylestown.

Drake Koch allowed just one hit and one run over five innings in the opener and Tom Jacob worked 6.1 innings in the nightcap.

Steve Weisensee had three hits, including a homer and a double, and drove in four runs in the opener while Santo Guinta had two hits and three RBI and Parke Abate added two hits and scored three runs.  Kenny Jarema scored three runs.

In the nightcap, the Cougars scored six unearned runs in the sixth to break open a 1-0 game.  Dalton Emerich had two hits and two RBI and Abate had two hits.  Sean Boylan had a hit and two RBI.

The Aggies took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of game one, but the Cougars answered with two runs in the third.

Jarema and Abate drew back-to-back two-out walks and scored on Guinta's two-run double to left field.

Weisensee led off the fourth with a solo homer and the Cougars put the game away with seven runs in the sixth before the Aggies plated four runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Abate and Guinta both had RBI-singles in the seventh and Weisensee added an RBI-double.  Conor Smith drew a bases-loaded walk and the Cougars plated two more runs on an error.

In game two, MU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third and then took advantage of two Aggies' errors to score six runs in the top of the sixth.

Dalton Emerich drew a lead-off walk in the third, moved up on a sacrifice bunt and took third on a wild pitch before coming home on Abate's two-out bunt single.

Abate reached on an error to start the seventh and moved to third when Weisensee reached via error with two outs.

Shane Hughes walked to load the bases and Adam Concadoro beat out an infield single to make it 2-0.

Emerich and Sean Boylan both drove in two runs on back-to-back doubles to left field and Jarema dropped a single inside the left field line to give the Cougars a 7-0 lead.

Misericordia is 12-4 overall and 3-1 in the MAC Freedom and will open a three-game series at King's, Wednesday.
