MU Softball Drops Two Sunday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Misericordia University softball team dropped a pair of games at the Sunkissed Games in Osceola, FL.

The Cougars lost to Muskingum, 8-7, and Alfred, 11-2, in five innings.

In the opener, Ciara DeLong had two hits and three RBI and Jessica Pluta had two hits, including a double.  Kiersten Pflueger added a solo homer.

Pflueger had a triple in the second game and Amanda Butera had a double while Maddie Holub had an RBI-single.

After Muskingum opened the game with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, the Cougars got one back in the top of the second.

Lori Brennan and Pflueger drew back-to-back walks and Brennan came home on DeLong's two-out single.

Trailing 5-1, MU added single runs in the fifth and sixth.

Holub reached via hit by pitch with two outs in the fifth and came all the around on Pluta's double to right field.

Pflueger led off the sixth inning with a solo homer to cut the deficit to 5-3.

Muskingum added two more in the bottom of the sixth, but MU rallied to tie the game with four runs in the top of the seventh.

Butera reached on an error to lead off the seventh, but was erased on an interference call on Holub's single.  Pluta singled to left and Brennan was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

Jordan Hoffman and Brianna Holder both singled to drive in runs and DeLong plated two more with a single to right field to even the score, 7-7.

Muskingum won the game with a leadoff walk and two-out single in the bottom of the seventh.

Alfred took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning and added three more in the third while the Cougars scored a run in their half of the second and third innings.

Pflueger tripled down the right field line with one out in the bottom of the second and scored on Jessie McDonough's sacrifice fly.

In the third, Butera doubled to left center, stole third and scored on Holub's single up the middle.

Alfred put the game away with five runs in the top of the fourth.
