Cougars Score 25 Runs in Rout of Immaculata

The Misericordia baseball team played just one game in Florida today, but scored enough for the entire week, routing Immaculata, 25-4, in Fort Pierce, Florida.

The Cougars had 25 hits off the Mighty Macs pitching staff en route to scoring their most runs since a 29-0 win over Martin Luther in 2015.

Sean Lyons went 3-5 with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Including Lyons, nine players had multiple hits for the Cougars and six players had two RBIs, including Dalton Emerich who came off the bench and had two doubles.

The Cougars jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first with Cole Bixler and Lyons hitting RBI singles.

Misericordia scored a run in the third and fourth innings before breaking the game open in the fifth inning, putting nine runs on the board. The Cougars scored all their runs in the inning without recording an extra-base hit, getting nine singles, two walks and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch. 15 batters stepped up to the plate in the inning, with Lyons getting two hits and scoring two runs.

The Cougars added three more runs in the eighth which included an RBI triple by Santo Guinta.

The ninth was another big inning for MU, adding eight more runs. Joe DeSanctis had a two-RBI double and Scott Carton and Joe Liscio also added RBI doubles.

Tom Jacob threw six innings for the Cougars, allowing just one run and striking out three. Dan Zurowski struck out two in two scoreless innings in relief and infielder Kenny Jarema pitched the ninth, striking out three and allowing no hits while walking three.

Misericordia will continue its spring break trip tomorrow at noon when they play Elizabethtown.
