Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Cougars Suffer First Loss of Season to Eastern

In a rematch of the last three MAC Freedom championship lacrosse games, Eastern came out on top, 11-3, over Misericordia, Wednesday afternoon in St. Davids.

The Eagles were looking for revenge after falling to the Cougars twice last season, including a 6-1 loss in the MAC Freedom Championship game, ending their run of five straight titles.

Patrick Kellish, Paul Hanrahan and Sean McSwiggan scored the goals for the Cougars and reigning MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week, Matthew Beck, made 11 saves in goal for MU. John Tierney and Patrick Newins caused six and five turnovers, respectively.

Eastern jumped out to a 5-2 lead after one period and never looked back, improving to 5-6 and 2-0 in conference play as Misericordia suffers their first loss of the season after winning eight straight.

After falling behind 1-0 early in the game, Kellish took a pass from Brandon Winslow and evened the score with his 30th goal of the season on a man-up opportunity.

The Eagles scored three straight goals before Hanrahan got one back on an unassisted goal with 3:40 left in the first period.

The Cougars were unable to muster any offense for the rest of the game as the Eagles pulled away. McSwiggan scored a goal off an assist from Robert Wagner with nine seconds left in the contest, but it was much too late as Eastern had already wrapped up the game.

Misericordia will look to rebound, Saturday, when they host Delaware Valley at 1:00.
