Patrick Kellish had two goals and five assists to lead the Misericordia University men's lacrosse team to an 11-7 win over Delaware Valley, 11-7, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Sean McSwiggan added three goals and
Chris Fleming and
Paul Hanrahan both had two goals and an assist as the Cougars improved to 9-1 overall and 2-1 in the MAC Freedom.
Matt Beck had nine saves and five ground balls.
McSwiggan netted the first goal of the game off a Kellish assist within the first two minutes. The MU defense survived three Aggies' extra-man opportunities in the first quarter.
The Cougars started on a 3-0 run to begin the second quarter fueled by goals from Kellish (two) and Fleming.
The Aggies responded with two goals of their own to cut the Cougar lead back to 4-3 late in the second quarter.
The final two minutes of the first half provided plenty of action as the Cougars scored twice within 15 seconds.
Brandon Winslow's goal made it 5-3 and Hanrahan scored off of the ensuing face-off for a 6-3 lead before the Aggies were called for two penalties in the final seconds of the first half.
McSwiggan took advantage of the Aggies' penalties with a man-up goal just 32 seconds into the second half.
Following an Aggies' goal, Kellish assisted on goals by Hanrahan, Winslow and McSwiggan to extend the lead to 11-5.
Delaware Valley netted two goals in the final seconds of the third quarter, including one with .8 to play, but neither team managed a goal over the final 15 minutes.
Misericordia will host Wilkes University, Wednesday at 7:00.
