The Misericordia University team split a doubleheader at DeSales, Saturday. MU took the opener, 7-3, before dropping the nightcap, 3-2.
Tyler Holzapfel had two hits and three RBI in the opener and
Steve Weisensee had three hits while
Sean Lyons drove in three runs.
Drake Koch picked up the win in the opener while
Kyle Melahn went 2.1 innings to earn his fourth save.
Kenny Jarema had two hits in the nightcap and DeSales rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth against tough-luck loser
Tom Jacob.
The Cougars did all their scoring in the first two innings of the opener.
Jarema singled to open the game and moved up on a passed ball before coming home on Holzapfel's single through the right side.
Guinta and Weisensee walked to load the bases and Lyons made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly.
Adam Concadoro and Jarema both walked in the second innings and
Parker Abate reached via error to load the bases before Holzapfel doubled to right center to give the Cougars a 4-0 lead.
Weisensee beat out and infield single to plate a run and Lyons closed out the scoring with a two-run single through the right side as the Cougars went up 7-0.
Trailing 1-0 in game two, Holzapfel drew a two-out walk in the top of the sixth and
Santo Guinta followed with an RBI-double to left center to tie the game.
Guinta moved up on a wild pitch and following a walk by Weisensee, both runners advanced on a wild pitch with Guinta scoring to put MU in front, 2-1.
DeSales answered with a two-run double in the bottom of the frame for the winning runs.
MU will host Keystone, Tuesday.
