Kellish Breaks School Record, MU Men Down Wilkes

Led by a record-breaking performance by Patrick Kellish, the Misericordia University men's lacrosse team defeated Wilkes University, 15-6, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
 
Kellish scored an unassisted goal in the opening minute and then fed Robert Wagner in the closing seconds of the first half to surpass Sean Collins as MU's all-time leading scorer.
 
Kellish had four goals and an assist and the ended the night with 216 points.  He tied Matt Carey for the school record with his 150th career goal.
 
Wagner led the Cougars with five goals and seven groundballs while Matthew Beck made four saves in goal and added three groundballs.
 
After Kellish put the Cougars up early, Wilkes responded with two goals before Wagner tied the score at two with 3:35 left in the first quarter. The MU defense stopped the Colonels on three of their four first period extra-man opportunities.
 
Sean McSwiggan's goal early in the second period gave the Cougars their second lead of the evening, but Wilkes tied it just two minutes later.  Goals from Nick Torzilli and Wagner gave the Cougars a 5-4 lead at half.
 
Wilkes pulled even early in the second half, but the Cougars responded with a 5-0 run over a three-minute span.
 
John Tierney, Wagner (two), Kellish and Brandon Winslow all scored during the run to give the Cougars a commanding 10-5 lead. After a Wilkes goal ended the run, the Cougars responded with two more goals to end the quarter with a 12-6 lead.
 
Misericordia outscored Wilkes 3-0 in the final quarter to secure the 15-6 victory.
 
The Cougars outshot Wilkes 51-23, including 28-10 in shots on goal.
 
MU will travel to Manhattanville, Saturday at 1:00.
